CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – In 2018, there were 15 homicides in Clarksville-Montgomery County and the majority involved gun violence.
Law enforcement officials from the Clarksville Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and District Attorney’s Office, as well as government officials, will be apart of a forum that will talk to the community about issues surrounding gun violence.
The Community Forum on Gun Violence will be held on Tuesday, December 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church at 1750 Needmore Road.
Reclaiming Our Clarksville Community R.O.CC.,) a local non-profit organization that focuses on helping families affected by gun violence and working with the youth in Clarksville-Montgomery County to mentor them and prevent acts of violence, organized the event.
“The purpose of this forum is to allow the community especially those affected by gun violence to meet members of the city council, Clarksville Police Department, and District Attorney’s Office and share their opinions and ask questions as it relates to the rapidly growing crisis of gun violence in our community,” said David Hooks, founder of R.O.C.C. ” It also allows those city officials to get to know other community residents to hopefully form trust and help us to better understand the workings of local government and law enforcement.”
The event is being held on the eve of the annual, “OnWings of Love: Remembering Our Victim’s of Homicide,” event on Dec. 4, at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Library.
