ANNAPOLIS, Md. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Navy senior quarterback and Clarksville native Malcolm Perry was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.

The former Kenwood football standout has had one of the best statistical seasons in Midshipmen history, rushing for 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns on 238 carries, while completing 43 of his 79 pass attempts for 1,207 yards and six touchdowns.

Having already cemented his name in Midshipmen lore, Perry continues to rewrite the history books. He needs just 88 yards combined rushing in the final two games of the year in order to surpass Napoleon McCallum and claim Navy’s single-season rushing record. Additionally, if Perry gains 69 more total yards, he will move past Will Worth for first place on the all-time single-season total offense list.

Perry will enter next Saturday’s Army-Navy game ranked fifth in the country in rushing yards per game with 136.4 and tied for fifth overall in rushing touchdowns.

Perry already owns a program-record nine 100-yard rushing games this season and if he rushes for more than 100 yards against the Black Knights, he will break the school record for consecutive 100-yard rushing games with nine.

No. 24 Navy will host Army on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in the annual Army-Navy Game in one of is the greatest rivalries in all of sports.
