CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Stessa researchers found Clarksville’s economic growth this year to be the ninth-highest among small U.S. metros and 33rd in all cities nationwide.

To determine the top 15 small, midsize and large metros in their study, the investment website analyzed data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Census Bureau and Redfin.

They created a composite score for each city and state using data from January to May of this year. Figures included the percentage change in total employment, unemployment rates, average monthly building permits per capita and average monthly home sales per capita.

Clarksville ranked ninth among small metros in the United States for most economic growth this year, with a composite score of 67.8.

According to the study, the Queen City held an unemployment rate of 4.9% in May 2021, had an average of 117 monthly building permits per 100,000 residents and sold a monthly average of 160 homes per 100,000.

Recently, Clarksville was also rated 14th nationwide in midsize city population growth over the past decade.

The conglomerate region of Nashville, Davidson County, Murfreesboro and Franklin was listed as the top large metro in the U.S. for economic growth, holding a composite score of 78.9. The state as a whole was regarded as 11th best in economic growth this year.
