CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University’s head baseball coach, Travis Janssen, was the guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Clarksville meeting Tuesday, February 16. Janssen took over the position as head coach in September 2015 after the resignation of former coach Gary McClure.

The coach talked about his goals for leading the baseball team. “I try to be very, very sound in things I teach baseball wise. If I can be a good role model, surround myself with good people and provide a good atmosphere, I think that’s puts us in a really good position to win a championship,” said Janssen.

Janssen said he and the team were very excited about the upcoming season and talked about the players being an older team with a lot of juniors and seniors. He added if experience is any part of it, that’s good for the team because there a lot of returning players.

The Governors baseball team kicks off the season Friday, February 19 with a weekend series at Raymond C. Hand Park against Bradley. They face Southern Illinois February 23 at home before the Governors Challenge Tournament begins February 26.
