CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – On the morning of Wednesday, May 22, the Clarksville High Wildcats returned to Siegel High School for an elimination game against the Beech High Buccaneers.
Despite a solid pitching effort from Brady Davis and Kirk Weatherford, the Wildcats offense went cold, leading to a 0-7 loss and ending their 2023-24 season.
Clarksville High head coach Brian Hetland did nothing but tip his cap to the Buccaneers starting pitcher, Cooper Johnson, who only allowed one hit in seven innings pitched, striking out eight.
“We just didn’t hit,” Hetland told Clarksville Now. “We faced a pitcher that had unbelievable performance. That kid had it today, and we didn’t”
Even with CHS losing to Beech High, there is a lot of historical background behind this season. Clarksville set their new program record for total wins at 39. In addition, they made their second straight state tournament appearance, which has never been done in program history before.
“There is nobody that has worn a Clarksville uniform other than these guys that can say they went to state back-to-back years, let alone three out of the last four,” Hetland said. “This senior class has been tremendous, there is a lot of fight and competitiveness in them. For them, I wish things went differently, but we have to move forward and learn from it. There’s a ton of teams that wish they got here, and we did.”
