CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville High girls basketball hosted their rival, the Rossview High Lady Hawks, on Monday during a district championship showdown.
The Lady Wildcats dominated throughout the game, eventually winning 64-43. With the win, Clarksville High secured back-to-back district championships against Rossview High.
Right from the start, it was evident that the Lady Wildcats were playing to take care of business, and that’s exactly what they did. Clarksville dominated the first quarter thanks to their offensive ability to move the ball inside out.
Meanwhile, CHS was just as effective on defense to open up the game. When the quarter ended, they outscored Rossview by a score of 18-5. This was the turning point in the game, because the Lady Hawks weren’t able to fight their way back into the contest.
Clarksville High was led by junior guard Imari Berry, who scored 28 points, including 16 in the second half of action. Berry was also introduced as the district’s most valuable player following the game, which was followed by CHS Head Coach Brian Rush being announced as Coach of the Year.
The Lady Wildcats and Lady Hawks continue their postseasons as they both advance to their regional tournament, which begins on Friday, Feb. 24.
According to CHS Athletic Director Shannon Cummings, these will be the opening matchups of the tournament:
- (4) Kenwood at (1) Clarksville High
- (4) West Creek at (1) Dickson County
- (3) Northwest at (2) Rossview
- (3) Springfield at (2) Henry County
