CLARKSVILLE, TN – Despite being only a few months old, the Clarksville Head Huntresses went undefeated last weekend and made their mark on the national rugby scene with a commanding performance at one of USA’s largest and most respected tournaments.
With over 90 teams competing across 10 fields over two days, Nash Bash is considered a premier event in the rugby community, drawing elite clubs from across the nation.
The Head Huntresses rose to the challenge with decisive victories over the Red River Rough Riders (25-5) and High Country (22-7). They advanced to the semifinals, where they defeated local rival and tournament host Nashville Women’s Rugby Club in a gritty 5-0 battle. In the final, they claimed the championship with a dominant 22-7 win over the Huntsville, Alabama Super Novas.
“I’m delighted to coach such gritty, determined women, equally represented by veteran and nascent players. Having had only enough practices thus far to shore up basic rugby skills, this team elevated its play to a very competitive level over their 4 games this weekend,” said head coach Theresa Singer. “They built an impenetrable wall of defense and ran a campaign of wrecking ball and lightning speed attack. I couldn’t be more impressed and prouder of these women.”
Huntress team captain Kim Jamison said, “It’s pretty incredible, to start in August with just 4 girls and over the course of 6 months win a tournament that’s been around over 40 years. It’s really a testament to the community of this sport. We’ve been welcomed into True South Rugby with open arms and our rookie girls can really feel that this sport is special, and it’s just lit a fire under the veteran women who have been waiting for this team opportunity as well. I am so proud of this team and am so excited to continue growing the game in Clarksville and Middle Tennessee.”
‘They have put their heart and soul into this team’
“We have spent the past several months rebuilding the Clarksville Rugby Football Club,” said club president Megan Talbott. “From continuing to develop the men’s team to the re-establishment of the women’s team we have come a long way. I could not be prouder of The Huntresses; they have put their heart and soul into this team and coming out on top is well earned and deserved. I look forward to more great things.”
Jennifer Sevilla, Founder of the Clarksville Head Huntresses Rugby Club, said, “This triumph is not only a testament to their athleticism and teamwork but also a promising sign of growth and talent in our region’s rugby scene. We will continue to grow both Men’s and Women’s Ruby here in Clarksville and always welcoming new players.”
