CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville business owner has been accused of stealing money from the paychecks of her subcontractors.
Sally Dawson, 66, (known by her employees as Sandy) is the owner of Dawson & Dawson Heating and Cooling LLC.
A Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) news release states that agents began investigating Dawson in April of 2014. During the course of the investigation, agents discovered that between Jan. 2010 and Feb. 2014, she took 10 percent of each of nine subcontractors’ paychecks to cover insurance costs.
However, no insurance was purchased to cover the workers and the necessary paperwork to exempt them from coverage had not been filed with the state, according to TBI.
Authorities were notified of the issue following a random inspection by the TN Dept. of Labor and Workforce Development.
The Montgomery County Grand Jury returned indictments for Dawson and charged her with five counts of theft over $10,000 and four counts of theft over $1,000.
On Wednesday morning, Dawson turned herself into the Montgomery County Jail, where she was later released after posting $5,000 bond.
