CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (ESPN CLARKSVILLE) – There are many high school basketball players who dream about playing at the collegiate level and only about one percent make the jump. Clarksville Academy senior guard Austin Fisher has taken the first steps in making that dream a reality.

Surrounded by family, teammates, and friends, Fisher signed Tuesday morning with Southwest Tennessee Community College, one of the premier Junior College basketball programs in the region. Fisher, Clarksville Academy’s all-time leading scorer, is excited about his new journey.

“I’d like to thank Coach Holt, Coach Matt, Coach Cobb, Coach Trent, Coach Welch, and my brother and trainer, Coach Qua. Thanks to Damian, Austin Wendt, Donavan, and the rest of my teammates past and present,” Fisher said. “I would also like to thank all of my teachers and Mrs. Walker who has done so much for me.”

Just like during his high school career, Fisher has some goals to obtain when he gets to Southwest Tennessee.

“Some of the things I’d like to accomplish are building great relationships with my coaches and teammates, and working as hard as I can to help bring a JUCO championship to Southwest Tennessee. My ultimate goal is to find a great Division 1 fit for myself that can put me in position to give my family the life of their dreams,” he said.

Clarksville Academy boys head basketball coach has high hopes for his outstanding point guard.

“I am very excited to see Austin continue to reach the goals he set for himself several years back,” Coach Wallace said. “Southwest Community College is getting a highly competitive, hardworking individual, that is motivated by the game of basketball. It’s been a blessing, and an honor, to be able to coach Austin the past couple of years, but more importantly to me, I have the opportunity to call him a friend. There were very few games during his career at Clarksville Academy that he didn’t amaze me with his basketball talent. I know he will continue to improve and refine his game, and we will be following Austin on the basketball court for many years to come.”
