CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Academy Cougars hosted the Goodpasture Cougars for a district volleyball match at Clarksville Academy on Tuesday. While Academy came out the gates strong, Goodpasture beat them in straight sets, 3-0.
Academy came out with intensity, diving for early balls, and scoring the first four points of the game. While Goodpasture won that set, CA head coach Michael Griggs liked what he saw from his squad in the first set. “I was impressed with the first set, even though I messed up some stuff with the lineup, they played through it,” said Griggs. “It showed that we can be flexible play in different spots, and come out with a lot of energy against good teams like that.”
Despite the intense start, Goodpasture went on a roll, holding Academy to under 10 points in both of the last two sets. Griggs knows there’s a lot to fix, but he’s optimistic for the season, as they will see Goodpasture again later this year.
“We’ve got some girls that can really throw it down at the net,” said Griggs. “If we can get a good pass and a good set to get them there, we’re gonna be pretty good. The main thing I want to take away from this is just to be more consistent, and hopefully that shows up when we see them again.”
