Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy announced the promotion of three interim staff members at a press conference on Thursday, April 10. Sean Jones was announced as the new head boys’ basketball coach, while Sean Wilson was announced as the high school athletic director, and Charles Clark was announced as the middle school athletic director.
“Having people in the building that are the best applicants and best suited for the job, that is something that we take pride in at Clarksville Academy,” said Clarksville Academy Head of Schools Jennifer Hinote.
Sean Jones came to Clarksville Academy in June of last year as an assistant coach. Before arriving with the Cougars, Jones was the head coach at King’s Academy in east Tennessee for many years, which included a state tournament appearance in 2023. Jones served as the interim head coach for the program for the last few games of the season and now steps into the full-time role.
“It means a lot to me. I value loyalty, and Clarksville Academy has shown that to me,” said Jones. “I try to love our kids and put them in the best position possible. This is a player’s program; we wouldn’t have one without the players. We’re the only basketball program in the city with a state championship, and we take pride in that. We have a ton of talent and natural ability, and we want to be a group that people want to come watch, and that Clarksville Academy and the community can be proud of.”
Athletic directors announced
Sean Wilson stepped into the interim athletic director position last spring when former athletic director and basketball coach Matt Hoppe left to become the head coach at Boyd-Buchannan High School in Chattanooga. Wilson now has the interim tag taken off after a year at the helm of Cougars athletics.
“It’s that level of trust that has been shown in me, having worked with them this past year and telling me that they feel like I’m the right fit; that’s all I could ask for,” said Wilson. “We’re taking some very specific steps to level up the experience for a student-athlete here. We feel that it’s a great experience, but we have heard feedback on ways to make it even better. When we say this is a family, we need to live that.”
Charles Clark has been the high school girls’ high school basketball coach since June of 2020 for the Cougars. Clark also stepped into an interim role with the middle school last year and now assumes the full-time position of middle school athletic director while still coaching the girls’ basketball squad.
“It’s pretty special for me; this is my wife’s alma mater,” said Clark. “I’m reminded daily that it’s all about the kids. Every decision comes down to what’s best for the kids. I’m excited to work with support staff that have what’s best for them in mind. This is a family, and that’s not a lie. This really is a family for me. I appreciate all the support, and I’m very grateful for this opportunity.”
