Charles Lucien Groves, age 82 of Clarksville, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021, at Tennova Healthcare.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Slayden Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Groves entered this life on June 5, 1938 in Dickson County, TN to the late Hershell and Lucille Choates Groves. He was retired from the North Fork And Southern Railroad in Detroit, Michigan. Charles enjoyed being at the sawmill, singing George Jones’ songs, the sport’s channel, NASCAR, watching golf, NFL Football and his extended family on television’s “The Young and The Restless.”

He received great enjoyment out of chatting with his CB Radio buddies. His CB handle was “Boilermaker.” If you knew Charles, you knew not to call him between 10 and 11 a.m, because he was watching “The Price is Right.” Charles enjoyed music and was the lead singer in a band in the 80’s in Detroit.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Groves, and siblings, Manson, Roger, and Rueben Groves.
Survivors include his children, Joyce Groves, Sandra (J.D.) Rushing, Jeff (Kathy) Groves, Teresa (Dan) Welch, Julia Davis, Kim (Allen) Ellis, and Angela (Chris) Elliot; siblings, Kathy (Pete) Peterson, Annis Black, Marsha Cerda, Shelia (Joe) Lallo, Terry (Jennie) Groves, and Joe Groves. Charles is also survived by 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
