CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Professional Golf Association (PGA) named August National Golf Month in 1993. With competitive players ranging from 11 to 103 years old, golf is a sport that anyone can enjoy.
Clarksville has a close relationship to the game, being the home of golf legend Mason Rudolph. PGA’s 1959 Rookie of the Year, Rudolph was a five-time winner of the Tennessee State Open and held multiple PGA Tour event titles.
Clarksville has several courses to choose from, making it a great place to celebrate National Golf Month:
Swan Lake
Located within walking distance of Dunbar Cave State Park, Swan Lake is a great place to play for intermediate golfers. In addition to their 18-hole course, Swan Lake has putting greens and an 18-hole indoor golf simulator.
Swan Lake is a municipal course, playing about 6500 yards from the tees with a par 71. The front nine is fairly relaxed with a few long drives while the back nine can prove a little more challenging.
Prices can vary at Swan Lake based on season but generally remain around $18-20. Tee-times can be booked at their website.
Mason Rudolph
Mason Rudolph is a great place for beginners. The course is located just off Madison Street at Clarksville’s former country club. They offer a nine-hole course, a driving range and putting greens.
The course plays 2990 yards from the tees and is par 35. The greens are demanding, but the environment is not. The nine-hole course is easily walkable and well suited for golfers who do not have all day.
Mason Rudolph is the most wallet-friendly course in town, charging $7.50 for 9 holes. To book a tee-time, call (931) 645-7479.
The River Club
Like Mason Rudolph, The River Club is a great place for beginners. Their course is unique with two pins at each of their nine holes, allowing for an 18-hole game.
A unique benefit of the River Club is their teaching pros. They offer lessons to visitors, helping them to step up their game.
The full 18-hole course plays 7000 Yards from the tees and is pretty flat. They have an excellent practice facility with a 3-tier driving range. They have two chipping greens, one on each end of the club.
Clarksville Country Club
Located on Memorial Drive, the Clarksville Country Club is private and requires a monthly membership fee to use. It is what one might consider upscale and requires traditional golf attire. It has a lot of elevation change and is a bit more difficult than other options.
The Country Club’s course plays 6900 yards from the tees, and is par 72. Holes 16-18 provide a particular challenge, featuring downhill slopes and unforgiving greens.
With such a variety of course options, Clarksville is the perfect place for golfers of all skill levels to enjoy National Golf Month.
