CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Academy Middle School was down 2 with only three seconds left when Jeff Rideau caught the ball, dribbled past two defenders, and hit a euro-step 3-pointer off one leg from nearly half-court. As the ball sailed toward the net, the buzzer sounded, and then the ball slipped through the net for a game-winning shot.
CA was playing Goodpasture Christian School Middle School on Monday on Procter Court, and the buzzer-beater shot was captured on video by Megan Sellers. The Cougars won 49-48.
“The rivalry against Goodpasture is always a back-and-forth feud,” said Cougars head coach Eli McCoin. “Late in the fourth, we’re down by 1, 45-44. We score a layup with 17 seconds left to go, up 46-45. Goodpasture rallies in a 3 with three seconds left to take the lead back. I called a timeout, drew a quick play, and the rest was history. Jeff comes down a few steps in front of half-court, makes a move, and lets it fly for the win.”
Rideau had 30 points on the night, with the miraculous shot to cap it off. He is averaging 22 points on the year for the Cougars this season. His older brother, Trae Rideau, is the reigning Clarksville Now Player of the Year, and is currently averaging 7 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds at Walters State Community College in Morristown as a true freshman.
