CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Local businessman and Clarksville City Council member Bill Powers has officially announced his campaign for election to the Tennessee State Senate’s 22nd District.
“Listen to the people you serve, try your best to make government work for them, and use basic common sense in making decisions,” Powers said of his philosophy.
Powers said his priorities as state senator would be to invest wisely in education and teachers, promote entrepreneurship, and help veterans with job placement and quality healthcare.
“My blueprint for success is fundamental. If we keep taxes low and invest in education, the result will be more job opportunities for the people of Montgomery, Stewart, and Houston counties,” he said in a release.

Powers said he is “guided by his faith and conservative principles” and is pro-life and supports the 2nd Amendment. He is a member of the National Rifle Association and an Eagle Scout.
He was born and raised in Clarksville and is a graduate of Clarksville High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in English/ History from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Powers has over 40 years of business experience and has served as managing partner of Wyatt-Johnson Automotive Group for the past 30 years.
Powers has been elected for two terms to the Clarksville City Council and currently serves as Chairman of Clarksville Gas & Water and the Clarksville Department of Electricity/ Lightband Board of Directors. He is also past chairman of both Clarksville Parks & Recreation and the Board of Zoning Appeals for the city.
Powers has further served on numerous boards including the University of Tennessee Board of Governors, UTAA Advisory Board, Better Business Bureau of Clarksville, Roxy Regional Theatre, United Way of Greater Clarksville, Clarksville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Economic Development Council of Clarksville, Montgomery County.
Bill and his wife Fran have been married for 31 years and have three adult children- Spence, Louise, and Henry Powers. They are members of Madison Street Methodist Church in Clarksville.
