CLARKSVILLE TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay men’s basketball (19-15) announced on Sunday, March 17, that their season isn’t officially over, and they have accepted a bid to play in the 2024 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Basketball Tournament (CIT).
The Governors CIT journey begins on Wednesday, March 20, when they are scheduled to face off against Alabama A&M (11-22) at F&M Bank Arena in the Hugh Durham Classic.
“We are looking forward to another great opportunity to represent the Peay inside F&M Bank Arena,” said Austin Peay men’s basketball coach Corey Gipson in a F&M Bank Arena press release. “We take the postseason very seriously and consider it an honor having an opportunity to compete in the CIT. The energy of the 6th Man has been electric this season. We will see you Wednesday at 7 p.m.”
This is Austin Peay’s second time playing in the CIT, the first since 2018 where they compiled a record of 1-1, according to APSU Athletics.
The announcement comes more than a week after the Governors finished as the runner-up in the ASUN’s conference tournament, after losing to Stetson University, who will face the number one overall seed, the UConn Huskies, in the 2024 NCAA Division-I Men’s Basketball Championship.
Other teams competing in the CIT include Abilene Christian, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Tarleton State, Purdue Fort Wayne, Bowling Green and Norfolk State.
