+CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – With one day before the start to their 2024-25 college football season, the Austin Peay State University football team and head coach Jeff Faris are preparing to go up against the University of Louisville on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m.

Going into his first game as Governor’s head coach, Faris will be looking to earn his first career head coaching victory. However, he knows with a power five team like Louisville, pulling off the upset will be no small task.

Faris told Clarksville Now that he last coached against Louisville when they had Lamar Jackson and knows what kind of environment they’ll be walking into.

“On offense they’re going to create explosive plays with tremendous balance,” Faris said. “They have a new quarterback; they’ve done a great job in the transfer portal. We need to be ready to defend explosive plays and their tremendous balance out of multiple personnel groups.

“On their defense, they do a phenomenal job, the strength of their defense is their defensive line. They can get after quarterbacks; their good cover guys and they play really-really hard. They’re going to make you work to beat them… This is what we can expect, we’ve got to play our best game,” Faris said.
