CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – APSU’s Clay Target Team won the national collegiate title at the Scholastic Clay Target Program national championships in Marengo, Ohio on July 15.

John Michael Baggett, Hunter Purviance and Wylie Randall won the national championship in sporting clays, beating the Central Georgia Elite Shooters and the KCCL Orange Crushers from Michigan by two points.

The team finished runner-up in collegiate doubles skeet on July 19, falling four points short of the Union Grove Broncos Shooting Club from Wisconsin. Purviance had the third-highest score in the competition.

Additionally, Baggett won three individual national championships, including the individual title, best overall shooter and the national collegiate title in skeet.

The team finished top 10 in several other team and individual events.

The strong performance at nationals followed up a dominant showing at the Tennessee state championships last month, in which the team won four team titles and seven individual titles.
