CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Continued momentum for the new multi-purpose event center came after Austin Peay State University Trustees met earlier this month. The board approved, by voice vote, and agreement to leases space inside the proposed new downtown event center.
According to a memo released by Austin Peay “the plan for the new multipurpose event center in downtown Clarksville includes a 29,000-square-foot main event floor with stadium seating and box seats. An adjacent building would have a full basketball practice facility on the second level.”
The County Commission voted to approve the land purchase for a downtown space at the May meeting. The event center would cover the downtown block bound by College, Second, Main, and First streets.
Montgomery County leaders have had conversations with Austin Peay State University about making the facility the home of its basketball program,
The proposed agreement between the University and Montgomery County government will allow APSU to lease space for the men and women’s basketball programs. This would include coach and assistant offices, locker rooms, practice facilities, and game-day facilities.
The initial discussion also includes the ability for Austin Peay to host 40 events at the new facility. This would coverall men and women’s basketball regular season games and potentially other events.
The continuation of conversations and partnership between the University and local leaders is a positive step forward for the new event space. Specific timelines, contracts, and fees have not yet been released.
