CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Going into their matchup against Alabama A&M on Tuesday, April 30, the Austin Peay State University baseball team had been riding a 6-game winning streak, which they were able to extend following a dominate 35-1 win over the Bulldogs.
During the game, the Governors hit a total of three grand slams courtesy of John Bay, who hit two, and Lyle Miller-Green. With Miller-Green’s grand slam, he set the program single-season home run record with 26 and counting, according to APSU Athletics.
In addition, Harrison Brown shined throughout the game as he compiled 5 hits with 2 home runs, 1 double, 4 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. His 11 RBIs also broke a 53-year-old APSU record.
It’s also important to note how impressive the Governors pitching rotation was yesterday, and it all started with starting pitcher Solomon Washington. Through 4 innings of work, Washington only allowed 1 hit while striking out 7 batters.
Meanwhile, Deaton Oak, Kyle Klingenbeck and Luke Rolland all pitched in relief for APSU and combined for 3 innings pitched, 1 hit, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts.
With their seventh consecutive win and a conference record of 14-7, Austin Peay is now in a three-way tie for second place in the Atlantic Sun conference standings. Jacksonville currently leads the A-SUN with a conference record of 15-6.
Next up, the Govs are set to kick off a three-game series with Stetson University. Game one is scheduled for Friday, May 3, with first pitch expected to be thrown at 5:30 p.m.
