Gratton Rd. – On June 16, Animal Control received a call from the Sheriff’s Office regarding a report of animal neglect. Upon arrival, Animal Control and the Sheriff’s Office found a deceased 10-month-old white Akita type dog dead in direct sunlight. The dog was on a stake with inadequate shelter and his water bucket was tipped over and dry. There was no shade within 50 feet of the dog. During the investigation it was determined that the complainant initially found the dog barely alive and unhooked the dog from the chain and dragged him into the shade. The dog was lethargic and breathing heavily and died in front of the complainant. The owner arrived home during the cruelty investigation and stated the dog had been chained outside since 7:30 a.m. The owner was charged with aggravated animal cruelty.

Animal Control would like to remind you if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them. Dogs and cats cannot perspire like humans can. If it is too hot outside for you, it is truly too hot for them. Please bring your animals in during this hot, humid weather. It could save their life!
Flint Ridge Rd – On June 15, Animal Control received a call from the Sheriff’s Department regarding a dog on dog attack. A home owner heard a horrible noise outside and looked out the window to see a pitbull type dog attacking his Great Pyrenees. The home owner ran outside and yelled and the pit bull, which was covered in blood, and ran back home. The Great Pyrenees died at the scene. Animal Control deemed the pit bull dog dangerous.

Meriwether Rd – On June 9, Animal Control received a call on the after-hours phone regarding a brown dog or bear that had been hit by a car. The on-call officer responded immediately to the area and found one large stuffed gorilla. He transported the gorilla to Animal Control.

Cal Ct – On June 15, Animal Control did a follow-up check on the welfare of a dog that had been tethered to a tree with no shelter. Upon arrival, the Animal Control officer and Director observed a rental sign in the yard and a lock box on the front door. The officers called the rental company after finding two abandoned domesticated geese in the back yard with a dry kiddie pool. The rental company confirmed the owner had moved out and turned off the electricity and water. The officers went to a neighbor’s house to get water for the geese and they immediately began drinking. The officers made contact with the owner and the owner said he had a place for the geese and would be picking them up. Charges are pending at this time for failure to provide adequate food/water/shelter. Another follow-up is scheduled at this residence to confirm the departure of the geese.

Cloud St – On June 15, Animal Control received a call from Clarksville police asking for assistance regarding an Amber Alert of a child. Police responded to a residence regarding the case and found several aggressive dogs in the home. An Animal Control officer responded to the residence on Cloud St. and secured a large Mastiff type dog so that police could continue their search in the residence.
