WOODLAWN, Tenn. – Montgomery County Animal Control is asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the person who abandoned five puppies on the side of the road.

Director Jeanette Farrell said the five pit bull mix puppies were found running in the road near the intersection of Floyd Circle and Lewis Atkins Rd. Wednesday night.

The woman who found the dogs was out for a run and took the puppies home with her.

The following morning, a jogger found the fifth puppy dead in an abandoned crate. Animal Control officers believe the puppy died from exposure to cold.

All of the animals were emaciated.

Officers photographed a jacket inside the crate, size 2X, with plastic wrap from a pack of cigarettes inside the pocket.

Farrell said the suspect can be charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, which is considered a Class E felony.
