HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – The Hopkinsville Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred Tuesday around 8:45 a.m. in the 300 block of East 18th Street.

According to a news release, the 63-year-old victim was approached by an unknown suspect who allegedly assaulted him and took an undisclosed amount of money. The victim said he was walking along the alley when the suspect, in a newer model white or blue car, yelled at him and exited the vehicle.

The victim said the man pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and struck him several times with it and stole his money when he fell to the ground.

The suspect fled toward an alley that leads to Clay Street.

The victim said the driver of the vehicle was a heavy-set black male with long dreads but never exited the vehicle. The robber was described as a black male with a slim build and short braids or dreads.

Hopkinsville Police are also investigating a separate possible robbery that occurred Tuesday at approximately 1 p.m. at the corner of Cypress Street and Canton Street where the robbery victim told police he was robbed by a Hispanic male and a black male. Police do not believe these two robberies are connected in any way and both are still actively ongoing investigations.
