CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Here is a compiled list of the area’s top quarterbacks along with their No. 1 targets heading into the fall.

1. Jaylen Washington and Corben Howard

Kenwood

Perhaps the top dual-threat quarterback in Clarksville, Washington can get the job done through the air or on the ground.

Washington will look to build off an impressive junior campaign in which he threw for 1,431 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 274 yards and five touchdowns.

Howard has elite acceleration and is capable of breaking off a long score any time he gets the ball in his hands. Last season, he had a team-high 569 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

2. Jaiden Puig and Dez Fort

Northeast

As far as pure arm talent goes, Puig may possess the most out of any quarterback in Clarksville. The junior throws a tight spiral and has no problem launching the ball deep down the field with accuracy.

Puig led the Eagles to their first Class 5A quarterfinals appearance in seven years, throwing for 1,332 passing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2020.

After losing two offensive playmakers in Jaylin Bowser and Jaylen Bussey, Fort will be asked to move into a bigger role this season for Northeast. As a sophomore, the wide out had 23 grabs for 294 yards and three touchdowns.

3. Davin Garinger and Ja’Mauri Cobbs

Clarksville High

Now entering his second full year starting under center, Garinger appears primed for a breakout season.

The incoming junior has all the intangibles and has already been offered a scholarship by the Big 12’s Kansas Jayhawks.

Garinger finished last season with 882 passing yards and six touchdowns, adding four more scores on the ground.

Cobbs led the Wildcats in yards after the catch in 2020. The versatile playmaker can put pressure on any defense while lined up either in the backfield, or in the slot.

4. Garrett Diemel and Jamel Burney

Rossview

Rossview quarterback Garrett Diemel became the starter for the Hawks in 2020 and threw for 942 yards and nine touchdowns.

After losing three key offensive weapons in Diivonta Phillips, Samuel Harding and Aaron Bolster, Burney will have some big shoes to fill.

The WR/CB had a game-winning interception last year against Northeast to seal a 7-4 victory. The Hawks are hopeful that Burney can have a significant impact on both sides of the ball in 2021.

5. Kayden Pace and Cavin Roberson

West Creek

After Ti-Anthony Wagner was moved to wide receiver during the tail end of last season, current West Creek quarterback Kayden Pace took over as signal caller.

Pace finished 17-of-39 for 164 yards and two touchdowns in a limited sample size.

Roberson is a big-play just waiting to happen, averaging 17.1 yards per catch in 2020. He can get behind defensive backs on a go route, or take a screen pass for a significant gain. The incoming senior had 240 receiving yards and three touchdowns last season.
