CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Four sidewalk projects designed to make it easier for children to walk to school have moved to the next stage of approval in Clarksville.

The City Council on Thursday approved the city moving forward on negotiations to acquire property rights and easements for the following projects:

  • Sidewalk project on Ringgold Road.
  • Sidewalk project on Crossland Avenue.
  • Sidewalk project on Beech Street, E Street and Byrns Darden Elementary School.
  • Sidewalk project on Rodeer Drive, North Liberty Church, Appleton Drive and Old Russellville Pike.

A number of these projects were discussed when the City of Clarksville announced a plan that would install sidewalks leading to area schools on Oct. 26 and at a School Board meeting on Nov. 15.

Chris Cowan, senior engineering manager of the Street Department, told Clarksville Now the city will complete the design and construction drawings over the next month.

“Then we will begin the process of acquiring any needed rights of way or easements,” said Cowan. “We estimate this process will take three to six months. Finally, we will advertise and bid the projects for construction over another month. So, a total of eight months is anticipated.”
