CLARKSVILLE, TN – Replant Clarksville has announced the first four local elementary schools that will receive new trees this fall. The trees are part of a larger effort by Replant Clarksville to improve tree canopy and environmental health throughout Montgomery County.
When Replant Clarksville asked Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools which schools most needed trees, the district identified 20 campuses. After review by CMCSS and Replant Clarksville’s Technical Review Committee, four schools were selected for the first phase of planting:
- Oakland Elementary – 52 trees
 - Barksdale Elementary – 39 trees
 - Minglewood Elementary – 44 trees
 - Liberty Elementary – 49 trees

Final planting maps showing tree locations and species have been approved for each site.
The plantings will add shade to sidewalks and provide a range of environmental benefits:
- Reduced flooding in parking lots and roads near schools.
 - Cleaner air: Tree leaves and bark collect particles and reduce pollution.
 - Summer cooling: Shade and evaporation from leaves reduces the surrounding temperature.

Native tree selection and care
Each site’s trees were chosen using the “right tree, right place” approach, considering mature size, canopy shape, soil, sunlight and resistance to local pests and disease. All are native species that support pollinators and provide ecological benefits.
The trees will range from 8- to 12-feet tall at planting and will be professionally installed. Replant Clarksville volunteers will water and monitor them for the first two years.
