CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Education was at the head of the class Thursday evening at the 27th Annual Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Association (CMCEA) Distinguished Educator Banquet. The event at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center drew over 440 teachers, Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) employees and staff along with family, friends and supporters of education.

A number of awards were presented at the event. The CMCEA Scholarship Recipient was Madison Wallace, the Christine Denton Education Support Professional Award was given to Sean Hoeling and the Distinguished Administrator Award went to Dr. Theresa Muckleroy. Donald Williams with CMCSS transportation was also recognized

The Green Apple Award goes to teachers who Have been in the classroom for 0-4 years. The Green Apple winner was Vanessa Cobb and the two finalists were Shantell Cook and Roseanna Gatton. The Distinguished Educator Award is for teachers with 5 years and above of teaching. The Distinguished Educator Winner was Emily Clay, the two finalists were Constance Brown and Samantha Winters.

CMCEA serves public education, its teachers, administrators and staff, and is the local representative for the Tennessee Education Association and the National Education Association. Guest speakers for the evening were CMCSS Director of Schools, Dr. BJ Worthington and Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts

Constance Brown, CMCEA Treasurer, Communications Chair and Legislative Liaison, talked about what the educators banquet means to the teachers. “The thing to me that is special about this particular banquet is every single winner, they were picked by their peers in their buildings. It’s very special when your peers think that about you and it’s special to know that people hold you in such high regard,” said Brown.
