CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The 13th Annual Cogioba District Boy Scout Patron Breakfast was held Tuesday, March 24 at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center in Clarksville. The event, which raised $30,000 was part of a fundraising campaign to benefit area youth scouting programs
Guest Speaker for the breakfast was former Southeastern Conference (SEC) Commissioner, Roy Kramer. Kramer is the man credited with paving the way for the Bowl Champion Series (BCS) and was a key player in its implementation. Kramer also served as coordinator of the BCS for two years.
The Cogioba District includes Montgomery, Houston and Stewart Counties in Tennessee along with Fort Campbell. Roger Nell, District Chairman talked about the local scouting program. “We had 1,210 scouts and 579 adult volunteers this past year working with the scouts,” said Nell.
Nell added that together among the 47 units in the district the young people completed 6,510 hours of community service and 20 new Eagle Scouts were recognized in 2014. Those numbers includes Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews and Explorer Posts.
Austin Peay State University Vice President for Advancement, Communication and Strategic Initiatives, Derek Van Der Merwe, served as the Boy Scout-Clarksville Area Friends of Scouting Patron Breakfast Chairman.
