The victims are 11-year-old Alexander Nash and his 12-year-old sister, Kemara, who were the only people present in the home during the blaze. Reports say the mother of the children had taken her 5-year-old child with her to the store when the fire occurred.

Firefighters from county units as well as Palmyra responded to the fire. Officials say the house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Deputy Sam Birdlong was injured by glass when he attempted to enter the home to assist a firefighter.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Local Red Cross Disaster Action Team members are assisting the family with food, shelter and emotional support after their loss.  They also provided coffee, snacks, and water to emergency responders on the scene.

“Our hearts go out to the family members who have lost their loved ones,” said Executive Director, Julie Campos.  “The Red Cross works to bring hope and help to those in our community who are affected by disasters, like this fire, every day. The Red Cross is also working closely with our partners, The Community Mental Health Foundation, in Clarksville to provide counseling for the surviving family members.”
