CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – State Rep. Aron Maberry won re-election to a second term Tuesday night, defeating Democrat challenger Garfield Scott.

Maberry told Clarksville Now it is an honor to continue to serve District 68, and his team was very pleased the results of last night’s election. “I look forward to continuing the work that District 68 has elected me to do,” he said.

He said that over the last few years, his team has worked hard to deliver results for Montgomery County in terms of infrastructure, investments, the two new hospitals, and “legislation to protect freedoms and strengthen our community.”

Maberry had 58% of the vote to Scott’s 42%.

Now, Maberry said, he turns his attention to continuing to bring as much of Clarksville-Montgomery County’s tax dollars as he can back into the community. “I want to continue to see infrastructure gains here in Montgomery County. We currently have the most money designated to any other county in the entire state for infrastructure, to the tune of close to $1 billion,” Maberry said.

“That’ll happen over the next 10 years. It’s already been designated, but we’re also going to continue to fight for more. That’ll be one of my main focuses.”

Scott: ‘We just need more donations’

Scott told Clarksville Now he could have won the race if he had more donations and that he will be back in 2028. “We had this race,” he said. “We just need more donations and more funding. Once we get that, I think we can climb this mountain and accomplish our goal.”

He said Tennessee voters are concerned about school vouchers along with gas and grocery prices. “I would still like to abolish the grocery tax, and that would help all of Tennessee,” he said. “I’m on the winning message. I just have to get it out to more people.”
