CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Garfield Scott is running for the District 68 seat in the Tennessee General Assembly.
Scott is a third-generation Clarksville native and lifelong resident of Tennessee House District 68. Born and raised in the St. Bethlehem community, he grew up as one of 10 children, attended Clarksville public schools, and worked on his family farm raising cattle, grain and tobacco. He later spent nearly 40 years as a professional truck driver, a career that took him across the country.
Now retired, Scott is a husband, father of two adult children and grandfather. He is a longtime member of St. Bethlehem Church and currently serves as trustee of the Montgomery County Democratic Party.
Scott said he is running for the Tennessee House because he believes the people who call Montgomery County home deserve a strong voice in Nashville. He has watched Clarksville grow from a smaller community surrounded by farmland into one of Tennessee’s fastest-growing areas. He said he believes that growth must be matched by responsible investments in roads and infrastructure, strong public schools, affordable healthcare, and policies that support working families.
He said representation means listening to and working for everyone in District 68, regardless of political affiliation. Scott said his campaign is rooted in his community and a commitment to make sure the voices of everyday Tennesseans are heard in state government.
