CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – An 11-year-old girl called in a fire south of Dover Road on Wednesday, helping Clarksville Police save her grandmother’s life.

At 1:07 p.m., the girl, who lives in the home on Skyview Circle, called 911 to report the fire and said her grandmother was inside sleeping, and the girl could not get her grandmother outside. The child safely left the house alone while on the phone with 911, according to a Clarksville Fire Rescue report.

Clarksville Police Officers Bush and Mead arrived and helped the grandmother out through a window.

CFR Engine 5 arrived to see light smoke and active flames. They began an interior attack and, during a secondary search, located a pet bearded dragon and safely brought him outside, CFR reported. The fire was called out at 1:29 p.m.

The grandmother was transported by EMS for smoke inhalation and minor burns. No other injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is under investigation, CFR reported.

Responding units included CFR Engine 5, Rescue 1, Ladder 6, Ladder 1, Squad 1, Ops 2, District Chief 2, Battalion Chief 2.
