CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Jessica Meyers Shaffer has announced her campaign to represent District 5 on the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board.
A native of South Nashville and a graduate of Antioch High School, Shaffer moved from Cheatham County to Clarksville with her husband and son, currently in middle school, in 2024. She served in the U.S. Air Force as an avionics mechanic during the Iraq War and studied Technical Management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University in Political Science with a minor in U.S. History. She has volunteered with Operation Stand Down and Christian youth ministries before going on to work in banking and corporate finance.
During the pandemic, Shaffer moved to Ashland City and worked as a substitute teacher for the Cheatham County School System, where she enjoyed teaching at all grade levels. Since moving to Clarksville, she began her career in media and was cast as a co-host on talk show Bless Your Heart on local TV in Nashville. She now works as an independent media consultant and producer in the country music industry through Nashville Women in Film and Television and Hotspot Nashville.
“School Board elections are not just for parents. We all have a duty to make sure future Americans are educated and responsible citizens,” Shaffer said.
She said she plans to focus on safety in our schools by implementing policies to protect our teachers and students, such as programs promoting conflict resolution that go beyond traditional security procedures, as well as reviewing transportation safety standards and cell phone policies. She also wants to reassure parents that their students’ well-being will be at the forefront and will implement better reporting procedures and interaction from guidance counselors and SROs. Her academics focus will be on reading and writing, teaching computer literacy, and civic lessons that promote America first values.
