CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Fairview Yellow Jackets traveled to Montgomery Central High School for a District 11-3A matchup with the Lady Indians on Friday. Neither team could find much scoring, but Fairview made shots when it counted down the stretch, and with 26 combined points from guard Casidy Walker and forward Abbie Hammon, eked out a 39-31 district win on the road.

The game was a physical, defensive matchup, with both teams going long stretches without scoring. It took the Indians over six minutes to find the net, with a mid-range jumper from Kate Yarbrough finally putting them on the board. The offense picked up slightly in the second quarter thanks to some free throws, but at the half, it was a 14-10 slugfest. Abbie Hammon led all scorers with six, which in a game like Friday’s felt like much more.

“We couldn’t get anything to fall; you have nights like that,” said Indians head coach Tony Amero. “We try to hang our hats on defense, we play strong, and never go zone. We could only hang our hats on it so much because even when we got quality looks, they just wouldn’t go.”

Fairview stretched the lead all the way out to 11 to end the third quarter, but the Indians wouldn’t say die. Central guard Presley Styles scored five straight to open the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run, a run that quickly swung the momentum. However, Fairview took it right back, with Casidy Walker scoring six in the fourth to close the deal and earn a win on the Reservation.

“We got in foul trouble and got good minutes from 1-10,” said Amero. “There are no starters or bench to us; we ask all of our girls to do the same thing in practice and game. Tonight that showed. We just have to put 32 minutes together, and we haven’t done that yet. The game was ours, but we lost to the best team on the floor tonight, and that was us.”
