CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A woman has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence and two counts of vehicular homicide in the crash in August that killed an elderly couple.
The crash happened Aug. 12 at approximately 2:04 p.m. on Memorial Drive Extension near Rush Lane. 90-year-old William Knight was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two passengers in his vehicle – his wife and sister-in-law – were taken by LifeFlight to Nashville.

Two days later, on Aug. 14, William’s wife, Martha Knight, died as a result of her injuries. Martha’s sister, 95-year-old Gradie Sue Smith, arrived at the hospital in critical condition but became stable and was released. However, according to an obituary from Gateway Funeral Home, Smith passed away peacefully on Oct. 3 at her senior living facility.
Preliminary findings indicated the second vehicle, driven by 46-year-old Allison Jane Proctor, crossed into Knight’s path, striking his vehicle. According to court documents obtained by Clarksville Now, Proctor was driving under the influence.
Proctor was indicted by a December grand jury, and on Dec. 15, she was arrested on charges of DUI and vehicular homicide, plus vehicular assault for injuries Smith sustained, failure to exercise due care and driving without a license.
Clarksville Now has attempted to reach Proctor for comment. She is scheduled to appear at the Montgomery County Courts Center for arraignment on Jan. 5.
