CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Northeast Eagles football team is entering year two under head coach Deonte Weston. While the Eagles won only one game in 2024, after a full offseason of work, they’re looking to fly high in 2025.

“We’ve been at this thing since December; that’s very different from last year when I didn’t arrive till May,” Weston told Clarksville Now. “Our kids are bought in, and they’ve gotten a lot better since that point up to now. They’re excited, and we’re excited to see the growth from all our guys.”

Northeast has always been a no-huddle, fast-paced team, and, according to Weston, this year will be no different. The team will be led by mobile quarterback, Kayden Davis, and a plethora of weapons at receiver, including a Clarksville Now All-Area Team selection from last year, Terry Jones.

“We’re an up-tempo type of offense; that’s what we’re always going to be, and we’re not going to change that,” said Weston. “It’s about our kids on offense getting that chemistry and the playbook down. Defensively, we’re going to be aggressive, and we’re going to fly to the football.”

While Weston said the record wasn’t what he hoped for in year one, he believes his kids did a great job buying into what they want to do as a program. Now, Weston is focused on taking that buy-in and translating it to wins in the fall, while not listening to any outside noise.

“You can look at our record and say what you want, but our kids competed the right way, and we’re learning how to compete at a high level,” said Weston. “There’s going to be a lot of people saying what our record will be, predictions of what we’re going to be, but we’re not worried about that. We’re worried about what’s happening at Exit 1, and that’s it.”
