CLARKSVILLE, TN − Local roller derby powerhouse “BeastMode” is set to represent Clarksville and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians on the world stage at the upcoming Roller Derby World Cup this July in Innsbruck, Austria. The event is considered the Olympic equivalent for the fast-growing sport of roller derby.

BeastMode skates with Clarksville Roller Derby, where they not only compete but also serve as Head of Training, helping shape the next generation of skaters. Now, their hard work and talent have earned them a coveted spot with Team Indigenous Rising, a global collective of Indigenous roller derby athletes.

“This is bigger than me—it’s about visibility, empowerment, and honoring where I come from,” says BeastMode. “Being able to represent both Clarksville and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians on an international level is a dream come true.”

Indigenous Rising Roller Derby is making its second appearance at the World Cup, July 3-6. As the first diasporic/borderless roller derby team, they paved the way for five new teams this year. Indigenous Rising is a diverse collective representing over 25 Indigenous Nations from North America, First Nations territories, and Polynesia in the first World Cup since the pandemic.
