CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – This spring sports’ season has been one for the books, as Clarksville has several state-ranked teams, and some postseasons are already starting to take shape. Let’s take a look at some storylines in each spring sport.
Baseball
In baseball, the storylines have ranged from Kenwood winning their first game in two years, to Fort Campbell opening their new baseball facilities, and Northeast recently taking a series sweep over Kirkwood. The Indians of Montgomery Central have also hit their stride after a rough start and are looking to repeat as district champions.
However, the three teams that have been consistently in the state rankings have been the Clarksville High Wildcats, Rossview Hawks and Clarksville Academy Cougars. The Cougars have earned marquee wins against teams such as Goodpasture and Beech, while the Hawks and Wildcats begin their two-game rivalry series Monday night at Rossview.
Softball
In softball, Kirkwood looks better than ever in their second season as a program, while Clarksville High and Rossview have had strong seasons in district 13-4A. On the other side of town, West Creek, Northwest, and Kenwood will duel it out for the district 14-4A title, and it should make for a fun postseason race.
Flag football
In flag football, Montgomery Central and West Creek stand as the last two undefeated teams in the city, and they match up Wednesday night for the No. 1 seed in the district and a rematch of last year’s championship game.
Other teams in the area also are much improved and could threaten for the championship crown themselves. The flag football postseason starts on Monday, April 21, and the winner of the tournament will represent Clarksville in the first-ever TSSAA flag football state tournament.
Soccer
In soccer, several teams are looking to battle for the district and region championships. Rossview is coming off a state tournament appearance and is always a threat, but Clarksville High currently stands with only one loss and one draw. West Creek has also shown themselves to be a threat coming off their district championship, while Kirkwood and Northwest are both talented teams.
