PARIS, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Dickson County Cougars, Henry County Patriots, Northwest Vikings and Kenwood Knights met up at Henry County High School for the District 14-4A tournament semifinals on Monday. The Patriots and Cougars both earned wins, setting up a matchup between Northwest and Kenwood in the third place game on Wednesday at Henry County High.

Kenwood runs out of gas late

The Kenwood Knights, while playing the No. 1 seed in Dickson County, didn’t back down from the challenge, and were down one at halftime. Sy’Nya Seay and Yazmine Pearson both led the way with 10 points each for the Knights. However, the Knights were outscored down the stretch. Despite giving Dickson a battle, they fell 41-31.

“We played hard, it just came down to the little things,” said Kenwood head coach Jemiah Harrison. “We didn’t box out well and they got a lot of second chances. However, we showed people we can play with these teams. We still have at least two more games, and I believe we can compete with any team in front of us. From this point on, it all matters more if they want to stay alive.”

Northwest can’t overcome slow start

The Northwest Vikings had split with the Patriots in the regular season, so the game was expected to be a showdown that came down to the wire. Unfortunately for the Vikings, Henry County got out to a 22-5 lead by the end of the first quarter, and the Vikings couldn’t crawl out of the early hole, falling 58-29. Lanayja Lyons led the Vikings with 8 points.

“Mentally, we weren’t ready to play,” said Northwest head coach Ben Wallace. “We didn’t play good defense early. Our physical effort was good, but our mental effort wasn’t there. I told them tonight wasn’t great, but now that game is over, we have to put it behind us, and I told our seniors, you’re almost at the end. Our season doesn’t have to be over, and it’s up to them to decide how they want to go out.”
