CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High girls’ soccer team hosted the Hume-Fogg Blue Knights for their home opener on Tuesday, Aug. 13. When the final buzzer sounded, the Hawks opened their home slate with a 2-0 win behind 2 goals from freshman Casey Steel and a shutout performance from goalie Mya Martin.

The Hawks controlled the possession of the game right from the jump, spending most of the contest in Hume-Fogg territory. However, they were unable to break through for a goal until there were only 16 seconds left in the half. That’s when Steel tapped in the first goal of the half off an assist from Cassidy Beltowski to give Rossview the lead.

Steel found the net again in the final stages of the game, this time on an assist from Alicia Shin, giving her two goals on the night, both within the last minute of each half. The “clutch gene” was on full display for the Hawks, and it’s a huge win to open their 2024-25 season.

“They didn’t stop, you play till the final whistle, Steel and the whole team showed that,” said Rossview head coach Connie Castleman. “We snuck both of those (goals) in late, and that was huge, because we could’ve easily not scored those. That ended up being the difference.

“It’s a great way to start, that’s how you want a first game to go,” Castelman told Clarksville Now. “We have a tough strength of schedule, and we’re going to be tested. I hope this carries throughout the season. I’m proud of my squad, and I like what I see so far.”
