CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The first-ever Q-Up the Classroom radiothon raised $26,690 to help the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation buy back-to-school supplies for the CMC Teacher Warehouse. As the total was announced from the two-day radiothon on Q108, 5 Star Media Group kicked in to round that up to $27,000.
During the radiothon, CMCSS teachers answered the phones to collect donations, XYZ with Erik Zachary hosts Zachary and Jordan Foster helped out in the studio, and the Montgomery Central High School band and cheerleaders visited to rev things up. The goal for this first year of the radiothon had been $20,000, and that goal was surpassed by noon Friday.
Teacher Warehouse is a free supply store available to CMCSS teachers. Through it, teachers have access to donated supplies to help students in the classroom. In the past nine years, the store has saved local teachers an estimated $344,000 in out-of-pocket expenses.
While classroom supplies are often the focus, the often-untold story is of the students who show up needing much more than a backpack and notebook. They often need the back-to-school clothes that so many families take for granted. By shifting our efforts from collecting items to collecting donations, this year’s effort will allow the Teacher Warehouse staff to purchase exactly what teachers need the most.
The effort doesn’t end there! You can still make your donation online. All of the money donated through Q Up the Classroom will go to the Teachers Warehouse.
Q-Up the Classroom is brought to you by Grace Dental and Reda Home Builders.
