CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Every year, hundreds of children across Montgomery County start the school year without the supplies they need. And it’s not just pencils and paper. Some need shoes. Some need toothbrushes or deodorant. Some need a change of clothes.
That’s part of the reason 5 Star Media Group has shifted gears in its annual effort to support the CMC Teacher Warehouse. This year, we’re presenting Q-Up the Classroom, a two-day radiothon on Q108 collecting monetary donations for the Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation. The radiothon will run Thursday and Friday on Q108.
Teacher Warehouse is a free supply store available to CMCSS teachers. Through it, teachers have access to donated supplies to help students in the classroom. In the past nine years, the store has saved local teachers an estimated $344,000 in out-of-pocket expenses.
While classroom supplies are often the focus, the often-untold story is of the students who show up needing much more than a backpack and notebook. They often need the back-to-school clothes that so many families take for granted. Those are some of the stories you’ll hear during Q Up the Classroom.
By shifting our efforts from collecting items to collecting donations, this year’s effort will allow the Teacher Warehouse staff to purchase exactly what teachers need the most. You can make a donation of any amount, but $50 will make you an honorary Backpack Filler! You can do that during the live radiothon or make your donation online today. All of the money donated through Q Up the Classroom will go to the Teachers Warehouse.
Tune in to Q108 Thursday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 931-648-7721 to donate. The total raised will be announced on Q108 Friday at 6 p.m.!
Q-Up the Classroom is brought to you by Grace Dental and Reda Home Builders.
