Claire LaPointe, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at the age of 82.

Claire was born in Acushnet, MA, on December 23, 1941, to the late Emile and Jeannette Richard. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Roger LaPointe, son, Mark Albert Dentz, and granddaughter, Danielle LaPointe.

Claire is survived by her sons, Jeffrey LaPointe, Roger E. (Lisa) LaPointe, Robert (Debra) LaPointe, daughter, Denise (Roger) LaPointe Lynch, grandchildren, Mitchell, Madison, Jennifer, Sarah, Anthony, Evan, Danielle, Alex, Josh; 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Claire entered Civil Service as a trainee at the Joint Chiefs of Staff – J4 and resigned after the death of her first husband and infant child due to a drunk driver. She remarried and stayed home to raise the couple’s four children. During that time, she was very much involved with the Girl Scouts. She was a certified outdoor and backpack instructor with the San Diego Girl Scout Council. Upon moving to Clarksville from San Diego, she was asked by the Girl Scout headquarters in Nashville to direct the combined Ft. Campbell/ Clarksville Girl Scout, day camp training a staff of 30 counselors. An avid outdoor lady, she and her family backpacked in the high sierras and in the southwest deserts. As a young Girl Scout, she camped along the Smoky Mountains and in her home state of Maine along the Appalachian Trail.

A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, she was active in the parish Council of Catholic Women serving as its president for two years and active with the Nashville Diocese Council of Catholic Women. She held various leadership positions in the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), Hopkinsville, KY chapter. She, along with her husband Roger, organized food baskets for the church for several years. They were also adult advisors for the church CYO program when their children were young.

Her hobbies were many, she was an accomplished artist favoring painting in oils which found their way across the country. Having Civil Service reinstatement rights, she retired after 23 years of service. She continued her education for personal enrichment. She was an avid knitter and instrumental in starting a knitting group at Immaculate Conception Church. The group sent knitted sweaters to the Diocese of Fairbanks, AK for the many villages in northern Alaska, as well as various areas in the Appalachian areas of KY and TN.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM.
