CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKVILLE NOW) – LeVone “Peg” Jimenez, whose many adventures included operating a ferry in Washington state, will turn 102 on Wednesday, May 17.

Looking back on her life lessons, Mrs. Jimenez jokingly said, “There’s many things I wouldn’t admit. What can I say? I had a good family, a good mom and dad.”

Growing up in Kansas, Mrs. Jimenez spent time on the farm with three sisters and one brother. The family tended the farm with their morning chores, such as feeding the chickens or milking the cows. She said her family would go to bed right before it got dark, to be up at 5 a.m. Breakfast was served before she and her siblings would walk to school.

In 1937, Mrs. Jimenez traveled from Kansas to Washington state, where she spent time operating a ferry.

Leaving Washington State, she moved to California, and later to Bumpus Mills, Tennessee, in 1977, where she and her husband purchased a marina. “We spent seven good years there,” before her husband passed away from a stroke, she said.

She then moved to Clarksville to be closer to family.

Today, she makes all-occasion greeting cards and has done so for the past 20 years. She spends time at home working on her crafts and admiring an impressive thimble collection she’s gathered over the years.

On Friday, Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden presented proclamations to recognize Mrs. Jimenez in turning 102.
