CLARKSVILLE, TN – With over 300 people in attendance this year, New Jerusalem Church is under the leadership of Katherine Minor Walker.
Each year, New Jerusalem Church celebrates the contributions and achievements of the Black community. 2023 included a dance performance by The Daughters of Jerusalem and a performance from the New Jerusalem Church choir under the direction of Vernon Stem, Veronica Stem and Mary Franklin.
The last six years, in honor of Black History Month, they’ve celebrated leaders in Clarksville that have exercised giving from their heart. Some of the former recipients included Joseph Roberts, Pastor Jerry G. Jerkins, Naomi Jerkins, Mayor Joe Pitts, Cindy Pitts and Kevin Kennedy.
Walker defines these leaders with sincere gratitude for their services rendered: “Willing workers that stop counting their days and made their days count, by giving of themselves!”
This year’s honorees for 2023 were Dwight and Latanya Jemison, Debbie Wilson, Robert and Shaquita Vance, and the Steve Bowen.
This event is held every year in the last week of February.
