CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Christine S. McKinney has announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination to the Montgomery County Commission, District 11.
McKinney is a project manager and business analyst who moved to Clarksville upon her retirement from a multinational relocation company in Phoenix, Arizona, where she had attained the designation of Certified Relocation Professional. Her 30-year career in the relocation industry included management positions in accounts payable, reporting and business analysis.
“The duties of the County Commission are varied, but a large focus is on budgeting and fiscal responsibility,” McKinney said. In addition to her professional experience, McKinney has acted as treasurer and bookkeeper for local candidates’ campaigns and for the Montgomery County Democratic Party.
She moved to Montgomery County to be near her son and his family. She said it has also afforded her the opportunity to pursue her interests in community affairs and gardening. “Moving to Tennessee was a conscious choice, made because of its scenic beauty, its varied weather and the friendliness and diversity of its residents,” she said.
“Clarksville and Montgomery County have seen a surge of population growth – over 20% in the last decade,” she said. “While such rapid growth can be seen as advantageous to our community, it also has its challenges. We must grow thoughtfully and sustainably, ensuring that we have the infrastructure in place to accommodate new and existing residents. This includes being proactive in alleviating projected overcrowding in schools and adding sufficient public services such as libraries, recreation centers and police and fire stations.”
District 11 covers a section of northwest Montgomery County and south Fort Campbell between 101st Airborne Division Road and Dover Road, roughly to Evans Road and Garrettsburg Road.
McKinney said that voting is our most sacred right and duty, and she has worked over the past decade to register new voters. She urged all Montgomery County voters to verify their registration status at GoVoteTn.org.
