CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – An Austin Peay State University football player has been arrested on charges he slashed the neck of a fellow player during a fight over a room key.
Nigel J. Ron Brannon has been charged with aggravated assault, according to an arrest warrant obtained by Clarksville Now.
On July 22 at about 7 p.m., in University Landing Apartments, the victim and Brannon, who are roommates, were looking for Brannon’s key in the victim’s room, the warrant said. Brannon wouldn’t allow the victim to leave. Brannon then pulled out a knife and threatened him. When he tried to get past Brannon, they fought, and the victim was cut on the neck and on the wrist.
The victim was then able to slip past Brannon and run out the door, the warrant said.
At about 7:06 p.m., the victim flagged down Clarksville Police and reported the incident. He required stitches to the neck and had a deep laceration on the left wrist.
Brannon told police he was angry that he had lost the key to his room and believed it was in the victim’s room, the warrant said.
The victim is an incoming sophomore on the Govs football team.
Brannon, an incoming junior, transferred to Austin Peay at the beginning of the year from the University of Memphis.
He was booked into Montgomery County Jail Friday on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.
Austin Peay sports officials told Clarksville Now the athlete has been suspended pending the results of the investigation.
