CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – As construction on the Multi-Purpose Event Center continues, plans are in the works for another major addition to downtown, right across the street.

Joe and Cathi Maynard have announced that the corner of College and Second Street will become a new, $4 million, 18,700-square-foot restaurant and bar called Shelby’s Trio.

Joe Maynard said the name “Shelby’s Trio” comes from the Maynard’s grandson, who is named Shelby, and from the family owning three Ford Shelby GT500 classic cars.

Being a muscle car enthusiast, Maynard said the first floor of the restaurant will feature Joe’s Garage with the theme of an American eatery along with a bar: The kind of place you want to go and take the family, he said.

Maynard added the allure at Joe’s Garage will two classic muscle cars on display in a glass enclosure.

The second floor will be Gatte Cucina, a fine dining Italian restaurant that Maynard said has been a dream of his wife, Cathi, for many years. It will have conservative décor with a smaller bar and outside seating. An area will also be available to be closed off for rental and parties.

Maynard said topping off Shelby’s Trio on the third floor will be the Skyline 500 Bar, the first rooftop bar in Clarksville, which will be home to maybe a little car stuff, or items with a European flair.

Maynard said he doesn’t really want to compete with any other eateries downtown, but to get more people to eat and shop in Clarksville. “Our hope is we are going to bring more people downtown so that everybody profits,” Maynard said.

The building is being designed by Lyle, Cook, Martin Architects, and Maynard said plans are to have the building permit by the end of February, with a soft opening in December.

“We’re going to go fast; it’s my nature as a businessman to go fast,” Maynard said.
