Wanda Viorene Hanson Verbist, age 88, of Clarksville,  passed away at Tennova Hospital on November 5, 2020, after a brief illness.

She was born September 4, 1932, in Merrill, Wisconsin to Harold and Viorene Hanson. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Halvor, Peter, and Carlton.

She is survived by her son, Gilbert (Bing) Verbist and wife Cindi, daughter, Julie Verbist Pace, sister Harriett (Joey) Slaga, brother, Clark (Jackie) Hanson, sister-in-law, Norma Hanson, grandchildren, Nathan (Bobbie) Verbist, Jaime (Ross) Wallace, Daniel (Callie) Verbist, Calen (Katherine) Verbist, Abby Verbist and Ashley (Matt) Sundstrom, and great-grandchildren Luke and Blakely Sundstrom, Levi Wallace, Lucy Verbist, Gwenyth Verbist, and Reid Emerson Verbist, numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda had worked in Civil Service as the JAG Claims Examiner at Fort Campbell, KY. She was a strong and independent woman who loved her family deeply and was always interested and involved in anything they did. She had a remarkable green thumb and loved to spend time working with her beautiful flowers and plants. She was most often found in her garden or reading in her favorite chair. She loved “her” Atlanta Braves and Green Bay packers, and faithfully followed their games. She loved having visitors and would play a mean game of Skip-Bo whenever she could talk anyone into it. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, Wisconsin.

Wanda loved her home state of Wisconsin and asked that she be cremated and have her ashes sprinkled in the river by her childhood home where she spent many happy hours swimming with family and friends. She also requested no public funeral service.

Her passing leaves a terrible hole in our hearts. We are thankful for many beautiful memories, and we cling to the promise that God will one day turn our sorrow into gladness.

Arrangements are entrusted to Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, 1510 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040; (931) 645-6488.  Online condolences may be made at www.nealtarpleyparchman.com
