CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Military Affairs Committee of the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a wreath laying ceremony Saturday, November 7 at the base of the Eternal Flame on Public Square in Downtown Clarksville.
The wreath was presented by Major General Brian Winski, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, Montgomery County Mayor Jim Durrett, and Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts as citizens looked on.
“On behalf of all of the soldiers and veterans of the 101st and the soldiers at Fort Campbell, thank you for letting us be a part of this and thanks more importantly for everything this community does for our veterans,” Winski said.
Winski added that tens of thousands of veterans have made Clarksville-Montgomery County their home and the way they are weaved into the fabric of the city and county is without compare.
The Eternal Flame was erected in 2004 on Public Square and stands to honor the sacrifices of soldiers and their families in both the past and present.
